Description
Enhanced photograph of the refracted light and color from the red/orange submerged roots of Mountain Alders on the bottom of a clear flowing stream. Mountain Alders are a pioneer species along Rocky Mountain streams where logging, mining, overgrazing or flooding have caused unstable streambanks to erode. Their extensive, strong root systems extend into the flowing water of the streams, but they are seldom seen until the water levels drop in late summer and fall. Mountain Alders are extremely valuable in stabilizing and enhancing the reclamation of damaged riparian areas.
